The Top 10 Reasons Why Love Spells Don't Work

Do love spells work? Well, yes and no. It depends on a number of factors. A reputable spellcaster should explain to you how their particular magick system works and give you instructions for what you should and shouldn’t do in order to manipulate energy in your favor. However, if you ask someone to cast a love spell for you and they guarantee it will work, run the other way. There is no such thing as 100% effective magick, and I am about to tell you why.

St. Expedite

St. Expedite in New Orleans

He could quite possibly be the most effective unofficial saint of urban legend ever to have been discovered. For a variety of reasons, the Roman Catholic Church will not officially recognize St. Expedite; but, at the same time, they won’t discount him either. That’s because he’s just too damned popular. And, according to his devotees, he’s just that damned good.  But who exactly is this saint of rapidity?

Spiritual Baths and Cleansings

Spiritual bathing is an ancient and restorative practice that promotes health and wellbeing by combining the healing power of water with various herbs and minerals to shift spiritual energy in your favor. In the African-derived traditions such as Santería and Hoodoo, spiritual baths are often prescribed for specific purposes such as drawing love and money, and facilitating healing.

Pomba Gira

Pomba Gira is a Brazilian female spirit found in the traditions of Umbanda, Quimbanda, and Candomblé. She is revered by initiates and noninitiates alike. Her imagery in her many manifestations is related to urban or street life and the everyday animal instincts and desires of people (vices, lust, indulgences, etc). She is very human, with concerns of the flesh and material nature, and shares in our human weaknesses.

Ask Voodoo Mama:
Can You Like, Kill a Person with a Voodoo Doll?

Murder, torture, abuse, maim, dismember...these are some of the words commonly associated with Voodoo dolls in the popular culture. People turn to the extreme to get even, gain control over, torture, and even kill their enemies. But before I answer the burning question, "Can you like, kill a person with a voodoo doll?" let's look at the process of torturing an enemy with a doll.

Spiritual Abuse in the Online Conjure Community

I have been approached on more than one occasion by women who have experienced a violation by so-called spiritual leaders in the ATRs and online conjure communities. From inappropriate comments to beatings to sending photos of their penises to rape - it runs the gamut. Each incident included threats of violence against the person and their families, and each incident included being bullied online and offline.

450 Headless ‘Vampire' Skeletons Found in Poland

A mass grave packed with hundreds of suspected ancient vampires has been discovered by workers digging up a road in Poland. Roadworkers made the grim discovery in the small town of Luzino, in the northeast, many of which had been found decapitated and posed in strange positions. Bizarrely, some were found with their skulls placed between their legs and a coin in their mouths - a practice that was common in the region during the 19th century and was believed to remove the 'vampire curse.'

How a Black writer in 19th-century America used humor to combat white supremacy

In the decades after the Civil War, Black writers were looking to faithfully depict the horrors of slavery while contending with readers whose worldviews were colored by racism. At the same time, entire swaths of the country were eager to paper over the past. Charles Chesnutt was one of those writers forced to work with skeptical editors within the confines of popular forms. Chesnutt nonetheless worked to shine a light on the legacy of slavery.

Dinosaur Shrimp in Arizona

Did you know that there are ancient creatures living in Arizona's desert? They are called dinosaur shrimp, or triops - meaning three eyes - and they belong to a group of crustaceans that have existed for over 300 million years. These shrimp have three eyes, a segmented body, and a long tail with two appendages. They have a remarkable ability to survive in harsh conditions: they can produce eggs that can remain dormant for decades until they encounter water again. When the eggs hatch, the shrimp grow rapidly and reproduce quickly before the pool dries up.

From Kali to Mary to Neopagan Goddesses, Religions Revere Motherhood in Sometimes Unexpected Ways

Religions around the world use Mothers' Day to honor the importance of many kinds of nurturing, from traditional celebrations to events that honor modern parenting, infertility struggles or the pain of losing a child.
Some of these religions include goddess-centered traditions that embrace many forms of the divine feminine as central to their belief systems. Guan Yin, for example, is revered as the goddess of compassion and mercy in several different Eastern traditions. The Hindu goddess Kali is often seen as a terrifying figure, depicted using multiple weapons and dressed in clothing of severed heads and arms. Yet Kali is also an important mother figure who channels her ferocity into the care and defense of all creation.
